- Sub: MADA Europe is born
-
-
- Hi everybody,
-
- I am happy to announce the birth of MADA Europe, affiliated to the US MacApp
- Developer's Association. I would like as many developers as possible in Europe
- to become a member of the association. Could you please forward to all European
- developers you know of or publish in your newsletter the following
- announcement? It will appear in the issue #4 of Apple Exchange, but 1- Apple
- Exchange is not as widely distributed as I would like to, and 2- the #4 issue
- won't be sent to developers before some time, which is too late anyway. Do not
- hesitate to spread as widely as possible.

- MADA Europe created in Paris
-
-
-
- The main concern about MacApp developers usually express is the steep learning
- curve it asks before being proficient. It is a lot like learning a new toolbox,
- and most of you remember how painful it was to learn the toolbox in the first
- place. That’s why you need support. Support from both Apple and other
- developers. You need to be in contact with those of you who have already gone
- far enough along the path. They will show you the good way, and they prevent
- you from wandering at random. That’s the very purpose of MADA.
-
- MADA (MacApp Developer’s Association) has been active in the United States for
- several years now. The problem for European developers, though, is that MADA is
- mostly concerned about US events. To meet with its members required crossing
- the ocean, which is expensive and time consuming. Today, all this is over. MADA
- Europe is born. MADA Europe is the European version of MADA and is officially
- affiliated with MADA in the US. Members of MADA Europe will benefit from the
- same advantages as their US counterparts:
-
- * Members of MADA Europe are also members of MADA.
- * Members of MADA Europe receive the MADA newsletter: Framework. Framework will
- allocate several pages to European stuff from MADA Europe.
- * Members of MADA Europe can buy the products published by MADA at a special
- low price. This includes the really useful browser.
- * Members of MADA Europe can attend the meetings organized by MADA in both
- continents.
-
- But MADA Europe is also more than a European mailbox for MADA. MADA Europe will
- also focus its activity on training, technical information, and software
- publication (in Europe and in the US). As a starting point, several proficient
- MacApp developers joined MADA Europe, and come regularly to monthly meetings
- organized in Paris. MADA Europe will soon organize training sessions as well.
- All the activity is currently taking place in Paris, but MADA Europe is looking
- in every country for active members who would organize local meeting there.
- Local meetings are will soon start in both Great Britain and Italy. I am
- looking for people willing to organize such meetings in all countries though.
-
- Communication between members will take place through Framework, but also
- through electronic mail. MADA Europe is currently active on both Applelink and
- CalvaCom. This includes electronic discussions about bugs, features, and
- advanced programming tricks. MADA Europe will soon have its own Applelink
- address. In the meantime, they can be reached at my address: MUYSVASOVIC1.
-
- I cannot overstress the benefits of joining MADA Europe. As far as I am
- concerned, I will support MADA Europe as strongly as possible. I will come
- regularly to the meetings, I will provide technical support to members, I will
- give talks and seminar. In the beginning, I will also coordinate and help
- organize the activities in each country. And I can offer to all MADA Europe
- members a direct free access to my 5-day MacApp course taking place in Paris.
- Access to this course is otherwise restricted to Apple people. The course is
- free of charge, but MADA may want to ask for a symbolic amount to help fund its
- activities.
-
- Practically speaking, you can join MADA Europe on Applelink (MUYSVASOVIC1), on
- Calvacom (EC11), by mail:
-
- MADA Europe
- Eric Carrasco, President
- 2 allée des Acacias
- F-95130 LE PLESSIS BOUCHARD
- FRANCE
-
- or by phone at (33) 30 72 06 90. The annual membership fee has been fixed to
- 400 FF. Do not hesitate to ask for more information if you need anything.
-
- And remember: MacApp is maybe a new toolbox to learn, but it is the toolbox of
- the future. And it is a lot easier to learn than the traditional Macintosh
- toolbox. In the future, there won’t be any other way to go than MacApp. If you
- wait, you will lag behind.
